FWB Chamber Sponsors Oil Spill Town Hall Meeting

The Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce will sponsor an Okaloosa County Town Hall Meeting and Oil Spill Update on issues surrounding the after-effects of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill.  The meeting will be on Friday, June 25, from 1 to 3 pm, at Four Points by Sheraton, 1325 Miracle Strip Parkway, East, in Fort Walton Beach.

The featured speaker will be Lisa Gautier, founder in 1998 of Matter of Trust, Inc.(MofT), the organization that is collecting hair, fur, fleece, feathers, mesh bags and nylons to make oil-absorbent booms for use in the response to the oil spill.  Many local volunteers have been working on this effort.

The guest speaker will be Riki Ott, PhD, a community activist, former commercial salmon "fisherm'am," and scientist who has a degree in marine toxicology with a specialty in oil pollution. She experienced firsthand the devastating effects of the Exxon Valdez oil spill—and chose to do something about it.

Following Dr. Ott’s presentation, representatives from the Okaloosa County Tourism Development Council, Okaloosa County Emergency Services, Representative Matt Gaetz, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Small Business Administration and BP will update attendees on the latest oil spill developments.

There will also be representatives from two accounting firms: Carr, Riggs, and Ingram, LLC,  and O’Sullivan Creel, LLP, as well as two law firms:  Fleet, Spencer & Kilpatrick, PA and Keefe, Anchors, Gordon & Moyle, PA.  Each of these firms will have representatives on hand to answer questions, both before and after the main presentation.

The event is free of charge and open to the public.  For more information, contact the Chamber at 850-244-8191.
