Daily News Fish Lipz Review

http://www.nwfdailynews.com/articles/smile-25915-beach-walton.html

Fish Lipz might put a smile on yours

FORT WALTON BEACH — There’s a new attitude at the restaurant on the water beneath Brooks Bridge.
These days it’s a happy place.
Even the name, Fish Lipz, kinda makes you want to smile.
If that won’t do it, maybe a selection from the long list of frozen drinks or $9 buckets of domestic beer, all day every day, will.
Or, perhaps, karaoke night might do the trick.
If all else fails, and the bet here is it won’t, find two friends and ask for a go at the shot ski. That will put anyone in a better temper. (I could explain, but it’d be more fun if you ask at the restaurant.)
Fish Lipz has arrived. It’s in a beautiful building in a great location, and its owners are obviously dedicated to serving fun along with good food.
Looks like a recipe for success.
The food
Before visiting myself, I had heard a grumble or two about the quality of food served at Fish Lipz. But on a recent Wednesday night, those grumbles were more than outweighed by praise.
“The hamburgers are #$%^ing awesome,” gushed one patron.
As for myself and the young lovely chosen to put Fish Lipz fare to the test, you’ll hear no complaints.
We started with a shrimp quesadilla, and I don’t think I’ve had a better one. The tortilla was cooked to a crispy crunch and the inside stuffed good and full of tasty seafood.
The Islandz Grouper, a grilled grouper filet basted with Asian teriyaki glaze and topped with grilled pineapple, was succulent, I say, succulent. The au gratin potatoez (Fish Lipz spelling, not mine) was a fine side dish, too.
Something a little lighter, but just as appetizing judging from the look of satisfaction on the face of its consumer, would be the Chicken Tenderz (Fish Lipz spelling … are you sensing a theme? Did I tell you this is a fun place?) BLT.
Fried chicken tenders, crisp bacon, lettuce and tomato, served with a white barbecue sauce Fish Lipz owners claim as their own.
Dessert was Rum Fudge Pie. Homemade, we were told, and very good.
The atmosphere
As popular as it is now, and believe you me the locals have begun latching on to Fish Lipz, come summer there may be lines to get inside.
The restaurant is built on the Intercoastal Waterway just below Brooks Bridge. Nearly every seat in the house overlooks the water and there’s an outside deck that’s actually on the water.
(There’s already been a man overboard reported.)
There’s a bar to huddle around, televisions for watching sports and the circular building that houses the restaurant is surprisingly large.
Then there’s a large frozen drink menu, those aforementioned $9 buckets, karaoke, and, this is fun, half-price shots whenever a barge goes by.
At this time of year the interior of the restaurant is a little chilly, but during the hot summer months the cool air will become an asset.
This is quickly becoming a place to be.
The service
The service was outstanding. Mandy, our server, was efficient, courteous, knowledgeable and laughed at my bad jokes. Our food arrived quickly, our drinks were concocted to perfection and a manager even came around to check on our welfare.
A final taste
Fish Lipz is the kind of place that you’ll want to drop into. Whether it be to duck in to to get out of the summer heat, for happy hour, lunch, dinner or even the Sunday brunch.
You’ll leave happy, that’s almost a given.
