Unwind April Class Schedule

April 2010 Classes
Got Gauge?  All levels
In this techniques class you will learn the importance of knitting to the gauge of your pattern. You will learn to make a gauge swatch, measure it and make changes to correct your gauge. There will be a discussion on substituting yarn and fiber choices.
Class will be (2) two-hour sessions. Cost: $20 Please bring sizes 6, 7, 8  needles.
Tuesdays, April 13 & 20th 1:00pm to 3:00pm
Beginning Lace  Intermediate Beginner
This class will use the pattern, “Shetland Triangle” from the book “Wrap Style”. You will be making a traditional Shetland lace shawl while learning to do a provisional cast on, basic lacework, how to read a chart, and how to block this beautiful creation. The yarn used can be anything from lace weight to Aran weight depending on your preference. Class will be (3) two-hour sessions. Cost: $40 which includes the book “Wrap Style”
Wednesdays, April 14th, 21st & 28th,  1:00pm to 3:00pm
Basic Socks  Intermediate Beginner
Are you ready to try your first pair of socks? They are much easier to knit than you think. You will learn to use double pointed needles, how to shape a heel and finish a toe. Pre-requisite: Able to knit and purl proficiently and experience in knitting in the round. Class will be (4) two hour sessions.  Cost: $35, includes class and pattern.
Mondays, April 12th, 19th & 26th, 1:00pm to 3:00pm
How to make a Baby Sweater   Advanced Beginner
Do you have a pregnant friend that you would want to give a handmade gift? This is the perfect class for you. We will be using the Blue Sky pattern “Cotton Baby Set”. You will be making a baby kimono that is worked in one piece then stitches are picked up to knit the sleeves. Class will be (3) 2 hour sessions. Cost: $25, includes class and pattern
Thursdays, April 15th, 22nd & 29th, 1:00p to 3:00p
Fixing Your Mistakes: All abilities
Learn to spot mistakes and fix them before they get too far! In this class you will learn how to read your knitting, picking up drop stitches, unknitting, frogging and putting in a lifeline. Cost: $15, (1) 2-hour session. There will be homework, call for information.
Fridays, April 9th or 30th, 1:00pm – 3:00pm
Crochet Baby Earflap Hat: Advanced Beginner
A new crochet class! We will be making the cute baby hat that is on display in the shop. You will learn to increase and decrease while single crocheting and how to make a flower. Class will be (2) 2 hour sessions. Cost: $20, includes pattern and class.
Fridays, April 16th & 23rd, 10:30am to 12:30pm
Sit and Stitch Events for April 2010
Leave the kids at home and come be a “Knotty Knitter” with us! Unwind, relax, sit and stitch.  It is a fun time to be with other knitters. Light Hors D’oeuvres or coffee and pastries.
Knotty Knitter’s “Sit and Stitch” is The First and Third Wednesday Nights, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. April 7th and 21st

Knotty Knitter’s Breakfast Club is held the Second and Fourth Tuesday mornings from 8:30AM to 10:30AM. April 13th and 27th

Classes available by Appointment
These classes are available anytime so as to fit your schedule. However, please call at least 24 hours ahead and we can schedule a class for 1 to 5 participants. If you don’t see what you need, please ask. We can help with just about anything!
Beginning Knit Series 
Designed for absolute beginners and as a refresher for those who haven't knit in years, you will learn the basic knitting fundamentals in our beginning knitting class.  This class is (3) 2 hour sessions. You will learn to cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, read a pattern and bind off your work. As a bonus you will be taking home 3 luxurious washcloths made by you. Yarn and needles are included
Cost: $30.00 (Basically the cost of supplies!)
Beginning Crochet Series
Learn the basic crochet stitches in this beginner class. This class is (3) 2 hour sessions. You will learn chaining, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet and crocheting a granny square. You will be making 2 washcloths.
Yarn and crochet hook are included
Cost: $30.00
Finishing Techniques:  Advanced Beginner
Learn to seam knit pieces together using mattress stitch, crocheted seams, 3-needle bind-off and kitchener stitch! Cost: $20, 2-hour session. Please call for information. There will be homework prior to the class.
Read Your Pattern- Read Your Knitting:  Beginner
Learn to read a knitting pattern while learning to recognize stitches in your own project. This is an invaluable resource!  Cost: $15, 1-hour session.

Knit in the Round  Beginner’s next step
This is the next practical step after learning to knit. Learn to knit with circular needles and double-points. You will make a hat in this project based class. This will be (2) two-hour sessions. Cost: $25 for class and pattern only.
Learn to Knit Cables,  Confident Beginner
The simple technique of cabling — crossing one group of stitches over another — lends itself to many interpretations. Once you've mastered the basic technique, and it's very easy to do, you can make all kinds of interesting and imaginative cable patterns. In this 2-3 hour class you will learn to make right and left leaning cables, a wheat ear cable and a faux cable. Cost: $25. Bring a light worsted weight yarn with appropriate needles.
Project Card    All abilities
Purchase our project card for $35 and receive (5) 30 minute sessions of instruction with your on-going project. Start a sweater or any project, knit awhile and when you get to something you don’t understand use one of your sessions. Use the card when you need it, there is no expiration date!
