The City of Fort Walton Beach Heritage Park & Cultural Center presents the 3rd Annual Haunted History Tours based on authentic local history, folk stories and spooky downtown historic sites. The 3rd Annual Haunted History Tours will be held on Friday, October 29th and Saturday, October 30th. Four tours will be conducted each night. Tour starting times are 6:30 PM, 7:15 PM, 7:45 PM, and 8:15 PM each night.
Tours are limited to 30 people each and early sign-up and ticket purchase isencouraged. Pre-sale tickets are available during museum hours at the IndianTemple Mound Museum at a cost of $8.00 per adult and $5.00 per child. On tournights, tickets can be purchased starting at 6:00 p.m. outside the entrance to theIndian Temple Mound Museum where tours will begin.
All tour participantsshould arrive at least 15 minutes prior to start time for each tour. The programoffers a guided twilight walking tour of over ten historic sites in the downtown area and features costumed actors interpreting local history and haunted happenings. Art Exhibit: October 1-October 31, 2010
The Fort Walton Beach Public Library invites you to enjoy an exhibit of artwork by Lars Runar through October in the library lobby. Mr. Runar will present a solo show of color and black and white photographs. Lars has been successful in winning prizes in both national and local photo exhibitions. This show will concentrate on the humorous side of life and a few computer manipulated images.
Lars's interest in photography began while he was stationed on Guam with the US Air Force. He won several prizes in nature photography in local competitions and began doing hand colored portraits.
He has been successful in winning prizes in both national and local photo exhibitions.
Recently, he won Best of Show for a photo of a Cleopatra Calla-Lilly, and first place for a black and white print of a lighthouse.
The library is located at 185 Miracle Strip Parkway, in Downtown Fort Walton Beach at the corner of Eglin Parkway. Parking is on First Street to the North and Ferry Road to the

Local artist, Brandon Pence, announces his solo art exhibit entitled, "...and all that could have been...". The exhibit will be held at Full Circle Gallery in Fort Walton Beach, FL. from October 29th to November 21st, 2010. There will be an opening reception on October 29th from 6:00pm-9:00pm, with the artist talk at 7:30pm. He will discuss the developed graphic design skills and his experimenting with three-dimensional mediums. Pence hopes to create an experience to get people thinking and questioning.
“I'm very excited about this opportunity. I am pushing myself as an artist to create pieces outside of my comfort zone for this exhibit," says Pence. "This is a collection of never before seen work made exclusively for this exhibit as well as a physical manifestation of my evolution as an artist.”
This is Pence's first foray into sculpture and three-dimensional art as a whole. He will be constructing a life-size wooden cross and incorporating a female form comprised entirely of broken glass, crucified to it. Although this may be a sensitive subject to some people, the cross symbolizes a specific meaning to the artist as he hopes to open the minds of his viewers. Pence says, "I want people to think. This exhibit isn't meant to offend; it's meant to invoke thought."
The 25 year old self-taught digital artist has attracted a niche following for his graphically enhanced photographic narratives. He captures portraits in a unique and intense way, posing his subjects against light and dark color contrasts. The eclectic, passionate tones of Pence? art clearly reflect his musical inspirations such as David Bowie, Johnny Rotten and Sascha Konietzko, as well as European artist Neil Duerden.

Free Screening of Documentary at HPCC
“Sunfeather Series Workshop”
The Fort Walton Beach Heritage Park & Cultural Center is offering a new “Sunfeather Series Workshop” a sequence of Native American arts and crafts classes, from September until December, to be held on Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. Each class will last between three to four hours, and all supplies will be included. There is a five person minimum required for each class, with a maximum of ten participants. Advance registration and payment of cash or check is required. Participants can attend any class they wish and are not required to register for entire series.
The workshop will include:

Pine needle basket - $30.00 + $5.00 facilities use fee
December 11-
Drum making - $80.00 + $5.00 facilities use fee
The “Sunfeather Series Workshop” will be taught by Sandra “Sunfeather” Lee of the Perdido Bay Tribe, a local and state recognized tribe of Creek Indians. Sandra is an artisan, demonstrator, and teacher of Creek Indian heritage, material culture, and arts. She is widely respected for her craftsmanship and knowledge of beadwork, leatherwork,pine needle basketry, and gourd art. Lee has delivered presentations to colleges and
universities, and has participated in several Native American gatherings in the area. Lee teaches in the traditional way of her Native American ancestors.

The Fountain Square
The merchants and residents of Downtown Fort Walton Beach are working together to build a Community Garden in The Fountain Square. We hope to rebuild our community spirit and promote local healthy eating.The garden will be a square foot design and promote gardens with in small places utilizing raised beds and containers. The garden will host workshops, films and meals that encourage sustainable healthy living.
Membership for working volunteers is free and will allow portions of harvest. There will be a non-working membership available as well that will require monthly dues and allow portions of harvest. Free membership will be offered to for local schools and children’s organizations to participate in the garden. The garden will be funded by local fundraisers, garden workshops and sponsors. Each sponsor will be provided with signage in the garden and listed on all promotional materials.
We currently are seeking monetary donations, services and materials to help break ground. Please review list of materials and services needed.
